A Sanctifying Time

Cross w red

Jesus Christ has given the local church two special memorials: baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Baptism reminds us of our union with Christ, and the Lord’s Supper reminds us of our communion with Christ. The Lord’s Supper is a privilege that should be taken very seriously by every believer. It is a special time of reflection upon the sacrifice that Christ made for our salvation and also a time of inspection so that we clean and sanctified for the Lord. 1 Corinthians 11:28 says, “But let a man examine himself…” All of us like to use things that are clean. So does God. Before God uses us, He inspects us. If we desire for God do mighty things through us, then we must allow the Holy Spirit to sanctify our priorities, our words, our thoughts, and our relationships. The Lord’s Supper is the perfect opportunity to pray “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me…” (Psalm 139:23-24).
