The Christian and Halloween

God’s Word calls every Christian have a discerning  Biblical view. To many, Halloween is simply a day where the kids can dress up like superman, a princess, or cowboy.  Here are some reminders  for all Bible believing Christians as we make decisions regarding our attitude toward Halloween.

1. Halloween markets the spirit of fear (example: Haunted houses, grotesque severed body parts – 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”)

2. Halloween makes light of spiritual warfare. When children are frightened by scary faces and gory scenes, parents assure their children that “there’s nothing to be afraid of.” (Eph. 6:12 “For we westle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers,  against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”)

3. Halloween desensitizes children and adults to Satanic themes (Ghosts, witches, goblins, demons, etc.)

4. Halloween shapes our beliefs by teaching lies about life after death (dead people coming back to life to haunt others diminishes the reality of a literal Hell)

5. It honors personalities that are the enemies of God and all Christians (Dressing as ghosts and demons insults our God)

6. Halloween can make Christians vulnerable to future attacks from Satan due to a lack of watchfulness. (1 Pet. 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilent; because your adversary the Devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”)

I trust that these truths from God’s Word will be helpful as you lead your family toward Christlikeness and away from the darkness of this world.
